Staring Down the Barrel of the 3rd Brownie

Allergen friendly, but not sugar free. Today's Mindful Monday is brought to you by a semi-scary word:: Moderation.

I'm thinking February 1st I am going to go Whole 30. Ehhhh.....I'm going to attempt it anyway. I'll be scouring the interwebs and piggy backing off of my aunt's page to figure out how and the heck to kick this sugar habit.
For the most part I do really good with the Paleo diet. Tuesday through Saturday I typically do really well. Then "my weekend" hits and Saturday night/Sunday all day I just eat so many carbs. I really do need to start hunkering down on not cheating. Cheating isn't bad, but I have a specific goal in mind for the next few months and having sugar and extra carbs are really going to derail me from my goals.

So maybe it's not so much going strict but just REALLY hunkering down...that's probably just a fancy way of saying being strict.


I was just super stressed this weekend for a multitude of reasons. Which led to some binge chocolate eating. On top of being hormonal. I can only imagine what my insides are doing with all that sugar.

The crazy thing about sugar is, you can't really see the damage until months later. After you consume so much and you begin to feel sluggish, it's hard on your heart and liver. Sets you up for diabetes, which as a woman--whose is attempting to live at peace--with PCOS I'm at an even HIGHER risk for diabetes when I eat too much sugar. The main key to success with whole30 is planning ahead. This weekend got so crazy. Saturday & Sunday night I didn't get home till after 10pm, and I forgot I had snack duty for Life Group tonight. I made brownies.
I noticed when I went low carb, then Paleo that I got really good at actually cooking dinner & better at lunch options, what I began to get terrible at was baking. None of my desserts have gone over really well. So when I got a hold of actually good chocolate, I tend to go over board. I've attempted my hand at Paleo desserts, but even those need to be had in moderation.

Got Questions has a REALLY great article on what the bible says about moderation.

"A great book in the Bible on the subject of moderation is Ecclesiastes. King Solomon was the wisest king to ever rule over Israel, and he experimented with excess. We can learn a lot from the conclusions of this wise king. In Ecclesiastes 2, Solomon lists many different projects and pleasures he pursued: “I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my labor, and this was the reward of all my toil” (verse 10). Yet, in the end, he was left unsatisfied: “When I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun” (verse11). Not only did Solomon test the limits of pleasure, he did the same with things we normally see as good, like wisdom (Ecclesiastes 1:12–18) and hard work (Ecclesiastes 2:17–23). Solomon’s conclusion was that every endeavor of his proved meaningless by itself. It is God’s gift to enjoy one’s life and His gifts (Ecclesiastes 5:19). But to value those things more than God leaves us still desiring what our hearts really need—Him."



 While I am sticking with the idea to do Whole 30, what I really need to figure out is why I need 3 brownies instead of 1. Why I think over dosing on sugar will be a cure all. It will certainly be an eye opener. 

Okay, so Feb only has 28 days, what will you at the end of the 28?

I'll cross that bridge when I get to it...til then it's just one day a time. 

I think I am going to start planning ahead for my whole 30. Planning large meals that will break down into lunches. Possibly hopefully batch cook things as well. I know February will be tough because we are also headed back to the farm at the end of February where my maternal aunt cooks some amazing dishes and delicious desserts. I'll have to bring my own food I think. 

One day...at a time...

I'm totally stoked that you're doing a Whole 30. What an inspiration... I tried it once and made it through about 4 days... I don't think I really knew what I was getting myself into as far as having to meal plan and prep.

You should try plantoeat.com this month! Coincidentally, they give you 30 days free. They also let you know when your 30 days are up so you're not duped into paying for something you don't want to pay for. It's totally helped with my day to day meal planning and I'm positive it'll help you through your 30 day journey. CAN'T WAIT KEEP READING ABOUT YOUR WHOLE 28-30 DAYS!

I will definitely check out that website. I feel like I still have so much to learn yet, nervous because there is so much of life going on right now & I know...I can't keep eating the brownies. Ugghh!!
