No Words

I don't know about you but it's easy for me to obsess about national, as well as international, tragedies. I want to know why it happened but most importantly what can I do to help?

While I'll never be able to explain the senseless, horrid act by any individual, I know there's something I can do besides watch the news. First and foremost as Christians, we should pray. While I sometimes fight with the idea of prayer--being real here--I know what it feels like when prayers are answered.

Second. Donate. Steve Sisolak, is the Clark County Commissioner Chair for Las Vegas, (Fun tip of the day: County Chair oversees and administers all County programs except those under the elected Sheriff, Auditor, District Attorney and Commissioners. The Chair presides over Board meetings and votes. The Chair executes Board policies, contracts, bonds and other instruments, and prepares the executive budget for submission to the Board of Commissioners.) has started a GoFund Me Page to help the victims of the Las Vegas Shooting. They have reached $8.5 million of their $10 million dollar goal.

If you live in the Las Vegas area you can donate blood to the local blood bank. If you would like to donate water, canned goods, or non-perishable items, please visit Three Square and Catholic Charities: https://www.threesquare.org/ or https://www.catholiccharities.com/.

If you would also like to help the victims displaced by Hurricane Irma and Marie in Puerto Rico, here is a web-article from Time Magazine with different websites to offer money too. They have multiple ways to Donate Money, Crowdfund, and Volunteer.

"Each of these states has fewer US citizens than Puerto Rico. Imagine any one of them without electricity, food & water."

Lastly, I'd like to say that if you struggle with depression or anxiety there is a GREAT website called the Mighty that sends out Newsletters about all things health related. Everything from cancer to depression. The have over 500 health topics that you can research, share, and learn about. This week they put out a heartfelt newsletter relating to the tragedies in Vegas, they had this to say.

"There’s a feeling of nationwide – and worldwide – hopelessness after a senseless tragedy like the one that took place last night in Las Vegas. It’s tempting to stay glued to our screens as the story unfolds, as we wonder, again, why, why, why.
That’s why it’s important for us to remember today how valuable our lives are, and how important it is to take care of ourselves.
Taking care of yourself might look like taking care of others. It might look like sending that extra “I love you” text, or giving an extra tight hug. If you need extra support, you can also reach the Crisis Text Line by texting “HOME” to 741-741. Call 1-866-535-5654 if you’re missing a loved one and need more information.
We want you to know that whatever you need to do right now is OK. If you feel helpless, there are things you can do, even if that thing is taking care of yourself. As Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted this morning: “You can also put down your phone or close your computer and take a walk. That’s what I just did. We need you for the long haul. We need you.”

Blessings,
A
